Kia Ora. Welcome to our site!
I, like Jamie am clearly mad. This golfing adventure is one of those ideas you come up with (often after a few beers), have a good yarn about, and then quickly dismiss, only to move to the next great idea. Trust me - I have done this many times. With puregolf2010 I figured that as the years tick by, why not do something unusual & take a risk. Thus, off with the job and on with the endless golfing summer.
Why golf many people ask? I have played merely 5 rounds throughout 2009, and largely have walked off the course highly frustrated. But golf is more than just three putting or blocking it out of bounds. Golf is one of those fascinating sports that anyone can play, from the athletic junior pro to the 80 year old toiler. And it is much more than a game - it is a chance to relax, have a good conversation and see some of the more beautiful sights in the world. So why not spend a year doing something you love! (Note: this is my way of saying that we are not playing golf every day to become professionals - indeed you will see from photos as we go that my swing has evolved from my hockey swing)
My personal details make for reading similar to JP's. Whilst not scottish (thank god!) I moved from Aussie to Christchurch in 1989 and have since spent most of my years playing sport and studying. Leaving a job in law seems a no brainer - somewhere inside of me I am wired to take risks and (at this stage) a stable secure career does not appeal. Golf wise, I was a member of Russley Golf Club for about 15 years before joining Clearwater Golf Club (pictures below) host of the NZ PGA championship in Christchurch, NZ.
I am leaving behind the wonderful Gretta, who it seems will be moving in with Ange to become the puregolf "widows" for 2010.
I have no idea what will come out of 2010 and that is the beauty of it. But I hope that Jamie & I can pull off this challenge we have set ourselves, and in the process meet a whole lot of amazing people who will share us in our support of the First Tee. Already, we have been amazed by the level of generosity from people willing to help out for a good cause, we hope this will continue as we take flight beyond Australasia.
All that said, puregolf2010 is simply about putting jamie in his place as the second best golfer in this challenge.
