Today we wore our red Westfield caps. Red caps mean bad weather! Jamie was again the victor and thus will write a blog post about the golf. In short I need to practice, and all parts of my game!
Golf is the perfect game for the challenge that Jamie and I are undertaking. It can be pure bliss when you hit the perfect shot, yet so frustrating other days. Confidence is king, and when you are ??on?? the game seems easy. However, for the average amateur player (like us), confidence can be a fickle asset ?? one bad shot or one random mis-hit and the mind games begin. For me, today was (again) one of the ??other days? and I am having to work through the mental challenges that go along with that. I am going through a difficult patch ?? understanding, considering my lack of golf ?? but very frustrating nonetheless. Jamie commented, quite accurately, that it was perhaps the worst he has seen me play, the ten years we have been golfing together. But I guess tomorrow is another chance to fix it up, and at least we enjoyed another new golf course.
Golfing in the rain is something that most amateur golfers just don??t do. You have to be somewhat mad to choose to play golf in the pouring rain. Saying that, I overheard one chap say he wanted to play regardless of the weather as otherwise he would have to go home to the wife and help around the house? Most golfers know that wet weather golf requires, above all else, supreme organisation. This has historically not been my forte, however today I was blessed with wet weather gear, golf bag cover and a brolly so the round was manageable.
We are now back at Whangamata, at our friend Simon??s beach house. We have had amazing hospitality here and it has been a great start to the year overlooking the beach and having early morning swims. Two mates, Blair and Paul (aka Dirka) have just left - it has been great to have them around for the first few days of our adventure.
